After a tight three-way race for the top two seeds in the MIAA B Conference soccer standings, defending champion Severn School and Friends School have locked-down first and second place after closing their respective regular seasons with victories on Friday.

Severn (16-4-2, 13-2-1), lead by a pair of goals from Devin McCarthy, easily defeated rival St. Mary’s, 4-1. Brooks Watson and Henry Reed also scored for Severn, which edged Friends by one point and third-place Boys’ Latin by just two points.

The Quakers (17-3, 13-3) claimed second with a 3-0 win over Annapolis Area Christian. Friends broke on top with a goal by Paul Benzer, assisted by Nick Steiner, in the 13th minute. With four minutes to play in the opening half Steven Bogusky made it 2-0 with a solo effort, and Daniel Malov headed in the final goal, off a Mike Klausner corner.

Severn and Friends both have earned first round byes and will host semifinal games on Thursday.

Boys’ Latin (12-2-2) had to settled for third place and will host sixth-seeded Saints Peter & Paul (8-8) in a quarterfinal game on Tuesday. Tuesday’s other quarterfinal will see fifth-seeded Park School (8-8) visit fourth-seeded Gerstell Academy (9-6).

Gerstell clinched fourth place and a home game with a 3-0 win over Mount Carmel on Friday. Jake Gardner paced the Falcons with two goals and an assist. Akil Errapothu also scored, while Brennan Sedney and Kaden Ross had assists.
