Concordia Prep, Saints Peter & Paul and Beth Tfiloh also advance; Bracket here

When a seventh seed knocks out a second seed in the opener of the playoffs it would usually fall in the category of a stunner. Park School, however, has proven kryptonite for Key School in 2021.

The Bruins, who have won just four times this spring, picked up their third win of the year Obezags, who lost only one other conference game in 2021 and finished as the second seed, with a 6-3 win at Fusco Athletic Park in the quarterfinal round of the MIAA C Conference baseball playoffs, Tuesday.

Park (4-9) was led by Paul Rogers, who went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and four RBI. Zach Mittelman also went 1-for-1 with three walks and scored two runs.

Lucas West made the start and went five innings to earn the win, allowing five hits and just one run while striking out three. Rogers pitched the final two innings for the Bruins.

Colin MacNabb was the only player in the Key lineup with multiple hits, as he went 2-for-3. Armand Ortiz, Clayton Wrinn and Lachlan Armstrong each had an RBI for the Obezags, who finished the year at 13-4 overall.

Elsewhere in the tournament, top-seeded Concordia Prep (15-1) cruised to an 11-1 win over Chapelgate Christian (1-14), 3rd-seeded Beth Tfiloh edged 6th-seeded St. Frances, 8-7, and 4th-seeded Saints Peter & Paul (8-6) routed 5th-seeded Jemicy, 13-1.

The winners move on to the semifinals on Thursday with Concordia Prep hosting Saints Peter & Paul and Park traveling to neighborhood rival Beth Tfiloh. The championship game will be played at the home field of the highest remaining seed on Tuesday, May 18.
