Our Lady of Mount Carmel senior baseball player Bobby Sanzone has committed to attend Salisbury State University in the fall of 2011, his coach and athletic director Mike Naunton has announced.
Sanzone, who has played varsity baseball at Mount Carmel since his freshmen year, is being targeted as a shortstop for the Sea Gulls. Having started every game of his high school career, Sanzone has earned All-MIAA honors his sophomore and junior seasons, as well as being recognized as an Extra Innings Player of the Week in each of those seasons.
During the course of his high school career, Sanzone has played primarily at shortstop and pitcher. For his career he is a .437 hitter (100-for-229) with 28 doubles. A solid contact hitter, Sanzone has only struck out 11 times in his career.
“Salisbury is a great fit for Bobby both academically and athletically,” said Naunton. “Bobby is a tremendous student athlete. I look forward to coaching him one more season, and am confident he will be successful at the next level.”
An honor roll student, member of the National Honor Society and an officer in the SGA, Sanzone plans to major in Criminal Justice at Salisbury.
