St. Mary’s High pulled off the first upset of the young field hockey season, upending No. 3 Garrison Forest School in an IAAM A Conference opener in Annapolis Tuesday afternoon.
Senior Kaela Jarvis and sophomore Stephanie Lazo had a goal and an assist for the Saints (2-0 overall, 1-0 IAAM A), and Kristen Lamon, Jamie Ruland and Caitlin Crouse added a score. Senior Kaeli Smith provided an assist.
Brooke Adler, Cody Magness and Erica Marshall each scored for Garrison Forest, which reached the IAAM A Conference finals last season. Candice Fisher made 10 saves in goal for the Grizzlies (1-1, 0-1).
Annie Galligan stopped 12 shot for the Saints, and Mary Mulhern made six saves. St. Mary’s head to Archbishop Spalding Thursday afternoon for a league contest.
Garrison Forest looks to bounce back with a home league match with No. 10 Notre Dame Prep Thursday. Saturday, the Grizzlies host their invitational tournament featuring No. 18 Mount Hebron, Winters Mill and Mount de Sales Academy.
