No. 3 Joppatowne remained undefeated with a big win in the opening round of the Vernon Brown Memorial Tournament, Monday at Fallston, and will face No. 10 Roland Park Country School, which knocked off host Fallston, in the Orange Division championship game, Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
In the bracket’s early game, Shakara Head burned No. 8 South River for 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Mariners to a 60-55 victory. Malloy turned a one point Joppatowne lead into a 56-53 advantage with a score with 51 seconds left and then helped close out the victory with a pair of late free throws.
In the nightcap, sophomore point Beth Kelly scored a game-high 17 points, including six clutch free throws down the stretch to lead the Reds. Senior Lauren Edwards finished with 14 points for the Reds and Daisy Alaeze added 11.
Earlier in the day, Bri Jones posted a triple-double for No. 5 Aberdeen, with 19 points, 24 rebounds and 11 blocked shots, to lead the Eagles to a 71-26 rout of Bel Air, in the White Division. Edgewood was also a winner in the White Division, knocking off Patterson Mill, 46-26.
The Rams and Huskies will battle for the White Division title at 3:00 p.m.
