OUTLOOK
Broadneck will try for a third consecutive road victory and its first berth in the state finals since 2005. The Bruins stormed back in the fourth quarter last Friday to end Arundel’s season in the East Region title game in Odenton.
Senior quarterback James Mullis continued his excellent play, throwing a 59-yard touchdown pass to Trae Byes in the third quarter and scored on a pair of short touchdown runs in the fourth. Domenick Johnson returned an interception 58 yards as the Bruins outscored Arundel, 29-7, in the second half to avenge a regular season loss.
The Cape St. Clair school atoned for its worst performance of the season, ending Old Mill’s run as Class 4A state champions in the region semifinals after a 31-7 pounding the week before. Now standing in the Bruins’ way is Wise, which Old Mill defeated, 17-16, in last fall’s state title game.
Wise, coached by former Howard High and Wake Forest standout DaLawn Parrish, pulled from away from Prince George’s County rival Eleanor Roosevelt for the South Region crown last Saturday, 30-13. Uriah Bethea posted his 10th 100-yard plus game with 138 and scored two touchdowns. DeAndre’ Smith rushed for a score and threw for another as the Pumas won their third straight region championship in just their fifth year of existence.
