River Hill, ranked No. 4 in the VSN football poll, took down host Hammond 27-6 in the season opener for both teams.
The Hawks received two rushing touchdowns each from junior backs Aaron Wells and Raamah Vaughn.
Hammond’s lone score came in the third quarter when Dionte Jones broke a 30-yard run.
There is a buzz in Howard County that River Hill won’t be as strong as they have been in the past but the Hawks showed tonight that they are still tops in the league until someone knocks them off.
The Bears (0-1) travel to Atholton on Friday while River Hill (1-0) will host Centennial.
