Baltimore, District renew hoops beef; New Town gets another shot at Edmondson (VIDEO HERE!)

The first full weekend of the 2019-20 brings several tournaments. Saturday at Forest Park, the 23rd Baltimore/District of Columbia Basketball Classic takes place.

In the opening match, fourth-ranked Lake Clifton boys play McKinley Tech (DC) at noon, followed by No. 7 Western taking on Wilson (DC) in a girls contest. Defending Class 3A state champ and No. 1 Poly boys play three-time defending District league champ Wilson, and defending 2A and 16th-ranked Patterson takes on Theodore Roosevelt (DC)  in the finale at 6 p.m.

The Charm City gain the early upper hand with victories by No. 4 Poly girls and seventh-ranked Edmondson boys.

Poly defeated Dunbar, 70-49 as freshman Da’Brya Clark scored 16 points, and Jada Gross and Dasia Townes finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively. The Engineers are back in action Saturday at noon against Prince George’s County’s Riverdale Baptist at Stars & Stripes at New Town.

Junior guard Eontee Nelson had a game-high 17 points as Edmondson (2-0) knocked off Coolidge, 62-46. Tre’Shawn Lewis and Brian Rice each finished with 11.

The Red Storm will play No. 8 New Town Saturday evening in the final game of the Stars & Stripes. Edmondson ended the Titans’ season with a xx=xx victory in the Class 2A North Region semifinal last March.

In another Top 20 match, No. 10 Dulaney plays 18th-ranked Havre de Grace at 4 p.m. The Lions reached the 4A state semifinals last season.
