For the first time in four years, the Bel Air Bobcats are not spending the precious moments on Saturday evening hoisting the UCBAC Tournament plaque.  

Instead, the Rising Sun Tigers were the crowned champions of the UCBAC’s conference tournament, outscoring the defening champions by more than 30 team-points to take the 2011 honors.

The Tigers nearly went perfect in the tournament’s final round, seeing champions in four of the team’s five finalist earn individual titles.  Conference champions for Rising Sun included Joe Jurgens (103), Adam Hefflefinger (125), Robert Rakes (135) and Anthony Cimirosi (152), with Ty McGee finishing second at 215.

Second place Bel Air had two champions in Tom Kuegler (189) and Steve Cross (140), as third place Harford tech matched the Bobcats with champions Jamie Rappazzo (152) and Dillon Brush (171).

Aberdeen was the fourth team to notch multiple champions in the weekend’s competition, watching Shayduan Velez and Marcus Webster go perfect through the 112 and 285-pound brackets, respectively.

Fallston, North East, Patterson Mill and Joppatowne all left the Bel Air gymnasium having crowned one champion, with the Cougars’ CJ Austin (130), Indian grappler Gene Sexton (215), Husky Zach Cullison (119) and Mariner David Volz (171).

The Tigers’ most recent defeat of the Bobcats marks the second time the team has put the ‘Cats down for the count, the first time coming last week in the 1A/2A East Regional Duals, where Rising Sun won on criteria.  Bel Air also had a win over Rising Sun in an in-conference dual meet early in the season.
