If Gilman was going to lose on Wednesday night, when it hosted Severn in a MIAA B Conference basketball game, it was not going to from because of a lack of scoring from Ryan Ripken.
The junior star scored 32 points to practically will the Greyhounds to a 55-47 victory which halted a three game-slide.
In the opening quarter, Ripken set his scoring pace with eight points and Chad Copeland pitched in with five points and five rebounds as the Greyhounds staked a 13-9 lead.
Ripken added eight more points in the second quarter as Gilman’s lead swelled to 29-19. Severn drew close in the third quarter when Stan Brudish scored five of his team-high 16 points., but Gilman was able to close out the victory with excellent fourth quarter free throw shooting, led by Steve Koteen, who netted 7-of-8 in the quarter.
In addition to the 32 points, Ripken finished with seven rebounds, three three-pointers and an 11-of-122 effort from the charity stripe. The Greyhounds were 23-of-29 from the line for the game.
