Gilman junior Ryan Ripken concluded a big week for the Greyhounds at Boys Latin on Saturday afternoon, scoring 30 points against the Lakers to lead the Greyhounds to a 51-38 MIAA B Conference basketball win.
It was Ripken’s fourth straight game with 20 or more points for coach Owen Daly’s quint this week.
Ripken had 22 in a loss to St. Pauls, 32 in a win over Severn, 20 in a loss to Annapolis Area Christian, and 30 against BL. He scored Gilman’s first eight points of the day against the Lakers on Saturday, helping his squad take a 12-9 first quarter lead. The 6-foot-6 southpaw hit four three’s on the day for the Hounds.
Junior guard Cyrus Jones had nine points, eight rebounds a five assists for Gilman, and Chad Copeland pulled down 10 rebounds.
Matt Rees led the Lakers with 11 markers.
Ripken deflected individual praise, giving credit to his scoring spree to his teammates.
“It’s been one of those weeks where I’ve been able to shoot pretty well, and my teammates are setting me up,” said Ripken. “We talk about that a lot in practice; set screens and work for each other.”
Ripken and his mates will have to stay hot if they expect to win next Monday, when undefeated Glenelg Country School visits Gilman in a key MIAA B conference match-up.
The Dragons defeated St. Pauls last week 46-44, after the Crusaders edged the Greyhounds 59-57.
