In a big game for both teams, Gilman outscored Mount Carmel in all four quarters and rolled to a 72-55 MIAA B Conference basketball victory over the host Cougars, Friday night.

It was another big night for Ryan Ripken, one of the area’s hottest scorers.  Ripken finished with a game-high 28 points and drained four three-pointers in the fourth quarter as Gilman put the contest away.

Gilman emerged from a high-scoring opening quarter with a 22-18 lead, as Cyrus Jones scored seven of his 15 points on the night and Steven Koteen sank a pair of threes.

Gilman led 42-34 at the break, but Mount Carmel stepped up its defense in the third quarter and made a mini-run.  Ripken, however, hit a pair of threes to help the Greyounds grow their lead to nine by the end of the period.  Ripken finished the contest 7-of-9 from beyond the arc.

In addition to his 15 points, Jones had 11 assists and five steals.  Chad Copeland also had 13 points and nine rebounds, while Koteen finsihed with nine points, all on three-pointers.  Gilman was 11-for-15 from three-point range.

Gedas Juozapavicius led Mount Carmel with 13 points and Malachy Onwidiegu scored 11 points.
