State final four-bound Gators debut along with C. Milton Wright; final poll next week

After securing bids to the state boys basketball Final Four, C. Milton Wright High and Reservoir enter this week’s VSN Boys Basketball Top 20.
 
The Gators claimed the Class 3A East Region title while the Mustangs won the North Region crown. Three of the four 3A semifinalists are local as No. 2 Poly will try to become the first team to win three straight state championships.
 
Seven squads are headed to the University of Maryland’s Xfinity Center. The Baltimore region swept all four titles last March.
 
Patterson remains in the No. 1 spot with Poly, St. Frances Academy, Edmondson and Mount St. Joseph completing the Top 5. 
 
The final poll of the 2018-19 campaign will be released next week.

Last week: The Panthers placed fifth at the Alhambra Catholic Invitational Tournament at Frostburg State University, defeating Gonzaga College (DC), 72-67 (consolation final) and St. Maria Goretti (66-46) after a double overtime loss to DeMatha Catholic (79-74) in the opening round. St. Frances won its 9th Baltimore Catholic League Tournament title with a 66-63 victory over Goretti at Loyola University.
