State postseason gets underway Wednesday

The pairings for the 2019 MPSSAA Dual Meet wrestling tournaments are set and action will get underway on Wednesday.

In Class 1A, Sparrows Point is once again the top seed in the North Region and the Pointers will host. At 5:30 p.m, Sparrows Point will face Baltimore County rival Pikesville and second-seeded Dunbar will face third-seeded Overlea. The regional final will take place at 7:30 between the earlier winners.

The 1A East Region will be hosted by top-seeded Patterson Mill. The Huskies face fourth-seeded Cambridge-South Dorcester (5:30 p.m.) and, if they prevail, they will meet either third-seeded Mardela or second-seeded Colonel Richardson in the regional final (7:30 p.m.).

In 2A, two more local schools will host regionals. Owings Mills has the top seed in 2A North and will open with fourth-seeded Crossland. Hereford is the second seed in 2A North and will face third-seeded Gwynn Park. The winners will meet at 7:30 p.m.

Glenelg is the site of the 2A South and the host Gladiators will meet Southern in their Regional Semifinal. The winner will face the survivor of second-seeded Oakland Mills and third-seeded La Plata.

Also in 2A, Winters Mill is the fourth seed in the West Region and will be at Damascus to face the top-seeded Hornets. North East is the second-seed in the 2A East, and will be at Parkside to take on third-seeded Kent Island.

Bel Air earned the host position in 3A North and will meet fourth-seeded Franklin in its semifinal. The other semifinal in that region features second-seeded C. Milton Wright facing third-seeded Kenwood.

In the 3A West, Manchester Valley is the third seed and will challenge second-seeded Tuscarora, at top-seed Linganore, which will battle South Hagerstown. The 3A East is at top-seed Stephen Decatur and there second-seeded Chesapeake-AA will will face third-seeded Atholton.

Catonsville is the host of the 4A North Region and the Comets will wrestle fourth-seeded Montgomery Blair in the semifinals. Third-seeded Sherwood and second-seeded Springbrook are the other two teams in the regional.

Finally, three Anne Arundel County teams are in the 4A East at top seeded Leonardtown. Fourth-seeded North County will face the hosts, while third-seeded Old Mill and second-seeded South River square off in the other semifinal.

The state semifinals and finals will be held on Saturday at North Point in Southern Maryland.
