Warriors break free from a scoreless halftime tie to down Mount Carmel


Paced by a pair of excellent assists by Max Rakhamimov, the Beth Tfiloh Warriors topped Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 2-1, Tuesday afternoon in Essex, in MIAA C Conference soccer action.

After a scoreless first half, Rakhamimov headed a corner by Micah Warschawski across the goal to teammate Gabe Heyman, who converted the chance for a 1-0 lead. Minutes later, Rakhamimov turned provider again, ending a long dribbling run with a pass across the goal to teammate Hunter Venick who tapped in for the 2-0 advantage.

Mount Carmel quickly answered, winning a penalty after a long free kick into the box. Brian Salgado perfectly placed the penalty in the low right corner to make it 2-1. The Cougars continued fighting for the tying goal, but the Warriors were able to hold on and secure the 2-1 win.

With the victory, Beth Tfiloh (3-3 overall) advanced to 3-1 in the C Conference where they reside in third place. The Cougars (3-6-1 overall) dropped to 1-3 in the league. Both teams are back in action on Thursday with Beth Tfiloh hosting St. Frances Academy and Mount Carmel traveling to Jemicy School.
