Most of Thursday’s metro area high school athletic schedule was postponed because of the heavy rain in the Baltimore region.

School systems in Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Cecil, Harford counties cancelled all afternoon activities. Baltimore, Cecil, Harford schools closed two hours early Thursday.

Howard County cancelled all outdoor activities, but varsity volleyball games were played as scheduled.

The boys’ soccer matchup between No. 2 Gilman School and top-ranked McDonogh School was postponed. McDonogh athletic director Mickey Deegan said Thursday morning a rescheduled date will be announced later. Another top 10 matchup, featuring No. 2 Bryn Mawr and No. 9 Notre Dame Prep in field hockey, was also postponed. 

Thursday evening’s football matchup between No. 3 Calvert Hall and No. 7 Poly was postponed. The game will played Friday at 3:45 p.m. at Calvert Hall’s Russo Stadium.
