Dundalk girls basketball player Tracey Carrington made a name for herself around the metro area last year as one of the top players in Baltimore County.

Last season, she averaged 25 points and 11 rebounds per game and led her team to the County championship game.  Tracey is looking to take her team back to the league title game, take the next step and win the crown.

VSN: How did you get started in basketball?

I started playing at the age of 10 but I didn’t start taking it seriously until i was 11.  When i was 12, I started to love the game of basketball and then when I turned 13, I ultimately fell in love with the game. That’s exactly why I wear number 13 across my back! But to answer your question, I was first introduced to organized basketball by the [AAU] Baltimore Starz at the age of 14.

VSN: What is your favorite basketball memory?

My favorite basketball memory would have to be playing 15-U with the Baltimore Starz. We had a squad!  I miss my girls.  Gosh, I love AAU basketball.

VSN: What is your personal goal this season?

My personal goal this season is to make my teammates better players, be an even better basketball player than I was last year, and that comes along with strong leadership too.

VSN: What is it that you love most about the sport?

Wow, this is a good one. I love everything about the sport, the ability to showcase my talent and compete, that’s what I love most about the game.

VSN: What part of your game have you been working on since the last high school season?

I’ve been working on a lot, particularly making my left hand stronger, a little bit of shooting and constantly being in the weight room to gain more strength.

VSN: Who is your favorite basketball player?

Well, actually I have my favorite five.  They are Lebron James, (yes, I’m a die-hard fan), Diana Taurasi, Cappie Pondexter, Paul Pierce, and my AAU coach Brandon Stretch.

VSN: What is your favorite basketball movie?

I’d have to say it’s Love & Basketball.

VSN: You pumped in 36 points against Catonsville in the County championship; can you talk about how you were in the zone that day?

Playing Catonsville is one of those games I’ll never forget. At first I was playing off my nervousness and made a lot of mistakes early in the game.  But once I started playing like the actual me, I got a little dangerous! I just let the game come to me and I guess the rest is history.

VSN: Do you have any pregame rituals, any particular music you listen to?

Yes, in fact I do. I listen to 2pac and a little bit of Boosie before every game and practice. This puts me in a different state of mind.

VSN: What is something that most people don’t know about you?

Something most people don’t know about me is that I’m a very family orientated person. I love my family!
