Aberdeen High boys’ basketball team came into Saturday’s final day of the 15th annual Basketball Academy riding high after upsetting No. 10 Lake Clifton the day before.
Kayvon Pyatt brought the Eagles back down to earth. The Edmondson senior guard scored 40 points, leading the eighth-ranked Red Storm to a 71-60 decision at Coppin State University.
Brian Ellison added 11 points for the defending Baltimore City league champs (11-1 overall), who pulled away in the final quarter. Pyatt scored 13 points in the stanza including three three-pointers.
The senior guard had 13 in the second quarter as Edmondson to a 37-31 lead at halftime. Pyatt had 23 at intermission including five from behind the arc.
Gerrae Williams led Aberdeen (8-5) with 17 points, and junior Deandre Henson finished with 13. The Eagles return to UCBAC action Tuesday evening against Aberdeen.
The Red Storm host No. 10 Lake Clifton Tuesday in a rematch of last year’s city title game.
