Ok No. 7 Dunbar open City league title defense; showdown with Mervo next (VIDEO HERE!)


After sluggish first half, Dunbar High found its stride, posting a 46-0 victory over City College in a Baltimore City Division I football contest at Sugar Cain Field in east Baltimore Friday.

Senior running back Andre Brandon had a 95-yard touchdown run and Malik McCormick return a kickoff for a touchdown for the Poets (2-0 overall, 1-0 Division I). Jamal Walker and Raekwon Walker each had second half scores.

McCormick’s kickoff return ignited a 38-point second half avalanche for the defending Class 1A state champ Poets, who extended their winning streak to 14, dating back to last season. Sophomore quarterback Derrick Dunn scored on a three-yard run late in the first half.

City fell to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in Division I.

Saturday, Dunbar plays No. 13 Mervo at Modell Field Friday in a matchup of the last two city Division I champs. Dunbar routed the Mustangs, 38-13, last season, ending a three-year losing streak its Hillen Road rival.

Mervo (3-0, 1-0 Division I), which defeated Poly in its league opener Friday, won three straight Division I city titles from 2014 to 2016.
