Junior attacker Allie Pickens scored the lone goal for the Glenelg Country field hockey team and then the team’s defense did the rest during a 1-0 victory over visiting Seton Keough in a IAAM B Conference game Monday.
Pickens tallied her goal with 17:20 left in the first half after taking an unassisted hard shot from the top of the circle off a loose ball. Senior attackers Claire McAuliffe and Sam Weinstein also had standout games for the Dragons, who improved to 10-4 overall, 9-1 in the confernece.
Glenelg Country sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Bates made five strong saves to earn the shutout while Seton Keough (10-4-2, 4-3-2) goalkeeper Jamie Hutcheson had 15 saves in the loss.
The Dragons held the advantage in shots on goal, 20-7, and offensive penalty corners, 14-7.
Glenelg has only two more conference games remaining, this Tuesday at Friends and Wednesday against visiting Mercy. The Gators host IND on Thursday.
