State final four-bound Raiders debut in next-to-last poll of season; Parkville surges to No. 12


Atholton is headed to the Class 3A state Final Four for the first time since 2009 after winning at C. Milton Wright Saturday in the quarterfinals and then-No. 15 Reservoir (3A East Region) on the road. The Raiders are No. 17 in this week’s VSN Boys Basketball Top 20.

Headed to its state Final Four in a decade, Atholton High debuts in this week’s VSN Boys Basketball Top 20.

The Raiders (19-7 overall) won at C. Milton Wright Saturday in a Class 3A state quarterfinal. The Howard County school will play Southern Maryland’s St. Charles in a 3A state semifinal Thursday afternoon at the University of Maryland’s Xfinity Center.

Six teams – No. 2 Poly, No. 4 Lake Clifton, No. 6 New Town, No. 7 Edmondson, No. 12 Parkville and Atholton – will be in the action in the final week of the 2019-20 season.

has been like “Game of Thrones,” with Mount St. Joseph, Poly and St. Frances Academy volleying for the coveted throne. St. Frances sits atop this week’s poll after a historic run in the 49th Baltimore Catholic League Tournament last week.

St. Frances, which will conclude its season at the Alhambra Catholic Invitational at Frostburg State, is No. 1, followed by Poly, Mount St. Joseph, Lake Clifton and City College . New Town, Edmondson, Loyola Blakefield. Archbishop Spalding and Mervo,
