Every new football program has to take its lumps and, after being fairly competitive during a 1-2 start, the fledgling Mount Carmel football team has taken it on the chin in its last two starts, including a 50-0 whipping by St. John’s Catholic Prep, Friday night at Eastern Regional Park in Chase.
St. John’s (4-3) quarterback Nick Peifer completed 19-of-26 passes for 301 yards and four touchdowns against the host Cougars (1-4). LaMont Wims was on the receiving end for eight catches and 124 yards, including two touchdowns, while DeShawn Weaver had seven grabs, including three scores, for 142 yards.
Weaver added a fourth score on a 55-yard punt return, while Wims paced the running game, where he also scored a touchdown, with 101 yards.
