Masonville Cove, playing its first ever varsity basketball game, battled No. 3 Patterson tough in the first half and went to the locker room trailing by just three, 35-32, in a non-conference Baltimore City boys basketball game, Thursday evening at Patterson.  The Clippers, however, found another gear over the final two quarters and ran away for a 79-62 season-opening win.

Sophomore Aquille Carr, a 5-foot-7 point guard, who lit up the Baltimore basketball community as a freshman, picked up where he left off last year, scoring a game-high 28 points to lead the Clippers.

Myrek Fowlkes also helped with the scoring load for Patterson, finishing with 19 points, while Steven Marshall finished with 14 points.

Antoine Montgomery led Masonville with 23 points and Leon Fleming scored 18.

Patterson returns right back to action, Friday evening, as they take on Calvert Hall (8:00 p.m.) in the Under Armour Invitational at St. Frances.
