John Carroll School boys’ basketball added another win to its gaudy record Saturday, but it wasn’t easy. The No. 2 Patriots grinded out a 36-32 victory over Archbishop Spalding in MIAA A/Baltimore Catholic League match in Severn.
Jarred Jones, who scored eight points and pulled down three rebounds, made a couple critical moves, leading to baskets and free throws that gave Patriots (24-1 overall, 8-0 MIAA A, 9-0 BCL) the lead late in regulation. The Harford County school also got big contributions down the stretch from Zach Frink, Kamau Stokes, Lionel Owona and Marcus James as starters Malcolm McMillian and Mike Owona fouled out.
Ronald Scott led John Carroll with nine points and McMillian, a senior headed to Central Connecticut State University, finished with seven. Erik Fisher led all scorers with 14 points for Spalding (8-14 overall, 0-8 MIAA A, 1-7 BCL). Spalding, which fell to St. Frances Academy, 63-50, Sunday, head to St. Maria Goretti for a BCL match Tuesday evening.
The Patriots head to east Baltimore Tuesday evening for a MIAA A/BCL match with No. 5 St. Frances. John Carroll defeated the Panthers, 63-54, Jan. 7, knocking St. Frances out of the area’s No. 1 ranking.
