Nikkie Fries scored five goals and Sarah Grochowski scored the game-winner as Patapsco High fended off neighborhood rival Dundalk, 9-8, in a Baltimore County non-division girls’ lacrosse match Wednesday at CCBC-Dundalk.

After building a significant halftime lead, with contributions from Fries, a senior, Grochowski (3 goals), and Kendall Merritt (goal), the Patriots saw their lead all but disappear behind a persistent Dundalk squad in the second half. Patapsco withstood the pressure to move to 3-0 on the season.

“We wanted to do a better job recognizing their three leading scorers and try to keep them from duplicating the 13 and 18 goal offensive performances they’d put up in their last two games,” said Patapsco coach Paul Latanishen.  “We did a great job that in the first half, but struggled to keep the defensive pressure up all game.”

The Patriots relied heavily on defensive trio to Kathryn Hacke, Danielle Roberts, and Whitney Woods to slow down the Owl offense.  Freshman goalie Savannah Clough also charted seven saves in the victory.

Patapsco hosts Woodlawn Friday in Division 2 match. Dundalk travels to Milford Mill Friday for a Division 3 contest.
