Patapsco High boys’ basketball squad got all it could handle from Franklin Friday evening, but the Patriots fought off the Reisterstown school, 61-49, in a Baltimore County 3A/4A league battle.
Senior guard Gary Fayall led Patapsco (9-1 overall) with a season-high 22 points and Rowland Hailey contributed 13 points and seven rebounds. Devin Hebron scored a game-high 25 points to lead Franklin (2-9).
Coming off a season-best 23 points Wednesday against Perry Hall, Hailey scored the Patriots’ first eight points Friday including a pair of three-pointers, but Franklin held a 12-11 advantage. Patapsco gained the lead at half as Fayall, handling the point guard position for a foul-plagued Devin James, knocked three treys.
Hebron kept Franklin within striking distance, but the Patriots applied pressure, mainly from Fayall and Davon Darby, to pull away. James provided 11 points in the second half.
The Patriots are looking at a busy slate next week with Chesapeake-Baltimore County, Towson, and Catonsville. Patapsco meets Franklin again Jan. 19 which will count in the Baltimore County 3A/4A league standings.
