No. 2 St. Frances wins fifth straight; West goes for 21 and 12


Jamal West (15) had another huge effort for St. Frances Wednesday. The senior forward finished with 21 points and 12 rebounds as the second-ranked Panthers routed McDonogh in MIAA A Conference action in Owings Mills.

Jamal West posted another double-double, headlining four double-digit scorers as second-ranked St. Frances Academy defeated McDonogh School, 90-53, in a MIAA A Conference basketball match Wednesday evening in Owings Mills.

The Panthers, ranked 16th nationally by ESPN (25th by MaxPreps), outscored the Eagles, 55-22, over the second and third quarters, to win their area-best 26th match (26-3 overall, 12-1 MIAA A). West, a University of South Alabama recruit, continue his impressive season with 21 points and 12 rebounds.

Reigning VSN Player of the Year Adrian Baldwin added 12 points as well as Kyrie Staten. Junior post Julian Reese finished with 11 points and eight rebounds.

Jared Billups led McDonogh with 14 points, and freshman Carlton Carrington had 13. The loss push the Eagles (12-14) a game-behind St. Vincent Pallotti (6-6) for the fourth and final playoff spot of the Black division.

The top four teams in the Black and Red divisions advance to the MIAA A postseason tournament.

St. Frances travels to No. 12 John Carroll School in a MIAA A/Baltimore Catholic League match Friday evening while McDonogh is at Gerstell Academy.
