The IAAM league was represented well at this weekend’s Bullis Holiday Basketball Classic in Montgomery County.  St. Vincent Pallotti (A Conference) and St. Mary’s (B Conference) both found themselves in a championship game.

The No. 13 Panthers defeated Mercersburg (Pa.), 75-12, on Friday and Sidwell Friends, 61-49, on Saturday to advance to the final game.

Pallotti played the host school Bullis and hung close in the first half, trailing 23-17 at the half.  But a third quarter outburst by the Bulldogs (5-2) put the visitors away.  Bullis outscored the Panthers, 20-3, in the quarter and held the Laurel school to just nine second-half points to win it’s own tournament, 53-26.

Junior guard Tiffany Padgett led Pallotti (6-3) with eight points and four rebounds.  Padgett had 11 points to power the Panthers in wins against both Mercersburg and Sidwell Friends.

After dropping a game to Bullis, 60-35, in the opening round, St. Mary’s rebounded to knock off Wilson (Pa.), 52-42, to win the consolation bracket final.

Melanie Mocniak scored a team-high 12 points and Jennifer Broussard added 10 points and 13 rebounds for the Saints in the win. The Annapolis school scored 20 points in the second quarter and had a 33-16 advantage at halftime.

St. Mary’s improved to 5-5 overall on the season and will host Park on January 4th.
