With two minutes to play and the score tied at 51 in Saturday’s MIAA B Conference basketball contest between Severn and Mount Carmel, in Essex, the visiting Admirals decided to hold the ball for a final shot.  As the final seconds ticked off Tony Olmert hit a clutch 15-foot jump shot and it proved to be the game-winner in a 53-52 victory for the Admirals.

Mount Carmel was able to get to the free throw line one final time, but managed to convert just one of two shots, allowing Severn to take the win in regulation.

Marc Burton had a big night for Severn, scoring a game-high 21 points and going 9-for-9 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.  Jake Burdish added 14 points for the Admirals (2-3, 2-2), while Olmert finished with five points and five rebounds.  In addition, Cole Bailey scored eight points, had five assists and three steals and Colin Rainey contributed seven rebounds to with three points.

The teams took turns establishing leads.  Severn outscored the Cougars (1-4, 0-2) 17-11 in the second quarter to take a 29-23 halftime time lead.  Mount Carmel roared back to outscore the Admirals 21-10 in the third period to establish a 44-39 advantage.
