Defending champ Owls, Mustangs take care of business in 3A girls lacrosse Final Four; Dulaney, Severna Park punch 4A state final ticket; South Carroll advances to 2A title game

After graduating several key clogs from its historic first state championship team, Westminster High girls lacrosse had ups and downs during the regular season. The Owls found their footing and are on the cusp of another championship.

Westminster defeated Stephen Decatur from Worchester County in a Class 3A state semifinal match at Mount Hebron. Loyola University recruit Anna Ruby finished with five goals and Hannah Dintino added four goals and an assist for the Owls (13-6 overall).

The Carroll County champ built a 9-3 halftime advantage en route to a second straight finals appearance. The Owls will play C. Milton Wright, Monday evening at 6 at Paint Branch in Montgomery County.

C. Milton Wright trailed early before blitzing Huntingtown for its state final berth since 2017. Senior midfielder Taylor Marchetti finished with five goals for the Mustangs, who received goal s from Kaitlyn Bajkowski, Reese Baldwin, Lydia Cassily, Hayley Cummins, Aubrey Hoover, and Madison Remeto.

Down 3-0, the Harford County school pulled even, 6-6, at halftime. The Mustangs outscored the Hurricanes from Southern Maryland, 12-2, in the second half.

South Carroll will join Westminster in the title round, defeating Queen Anne’s County, 13-5, in a Class 2A semifinal at Northeast Friday evening.

Riley Evans scored five goals for the Cavaliers, and Paige Abbott added four. Trailing 2-0 early, South Carroll outscored Queen Anne’s, 13-3, for its first state final since 1993.

After a disappointing showing in the Anne Arundel County final last week, Severna Park is refocused and in position for its first state title since 2015. The Falcons defeated Montgomery County’s Walt Whitman, 16-3, at Montgomery County’s Gaithersburg.

Senior midfielder Hunter Chadwick finished with four goals and Theresa Bragg added a hat trick. The Falcons (18-1), who lost their lone match of the season to South River in the Anne Arundel final, will play Dulaney for the state title, Monday night at 8 at Paint Branch.

The Lions routed Prince George’s County’s Eleanor Roosevelt, 17-1, for their third 4A title game spot in four seasons. Dulaney, which lost to South River in last year’s final and won the 2016 crown, lost to Severna Park, 20-6, at the South River Tournament last month.
