When: Friday, 7:30 p.m.
Overview: In a game that will loom large in the Class 3A North Region playoff chase, Hereford goes to North Harford in a Top 20 matchup. The Bulls will debut a mostly inexperienced team with senior Tim Bristol the only returning stater. Another veteran, Vince DePaola missed most of last regular season because of injury.
DePaola, a senior, is healthy, and along with Bristol in the backfield, they’ll have to guide a young offensive line. The Bulls have seven linemen who weigh at least 300 pounds.
North Harford have high expectations in 2010 returning 13 starters including senior Brandon Bayer, who rushed for 1,373 yards and 23 touchdowns last year. Bayer has been selected to this December’s Crab Bowl senior all-star contest.
Senior quarterback Cody Turner also returns to the offense along with linemen Justin Hedrick, Chad Short and Vince Culotta. Senior Jeremy Skrzypiec and sophomore Josh Welsh are the wideouts.
Culotta (line) and Turner (free safety) return to the Hawks’ defense along with senior Matt Hyde (line), linebackers Frank Reynolds and Marc Anderson and safety Jalen Shaw. The unit will motivated to atone for a pair of disappointing showings last season.
In the season opener at Hereford, the Bulls rolled to 35-0 advantage after three quarters en route to a 35-10 decision. They jumped out to a 17-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 30-0 victory in the 3A North Region opener. Zach Witkowski scored two touchdowns for the Bulls, who eventually lost to eventual state champ Linganore in the state semifinals.
