Madison Story had 2 RBI and Meghan Fersch had a triple and struck out nine on the mound as North East withstood No. 9 C. Milton Wright’s rally for a 5-4 decision in an UCBAC Chesapeake softball contest Thursday afternoon.

The Cecil County school produced two runs in its first at-bat with three hits with two outs. In the fourth, Fersch tripled and came home on a Mustang throwing error, extending the lead to 3-0, before tacking on two more in the fifth.

Lindsay Resnik started C. Milton Wright comeback in the sixth with a double, and scored on a triple by Jessica Lucas. In the seventh, MacKenzie Fitzgerald opened with a double and scored, and Lindsay Resnik’s two-run double brought the Bel Air to within a run.

The Mustangs (4-4, 4-3 Chesapeake) were unable to bring home Resnik as C. Milton Wright’s hopes to repeat as UCBAC champions ended with its third division loss. The Mustangs lost to unbeaten and division-leading Rising Sun earlier in the week.

C. Milton Wright has a challenging week upcoming with non-league games against defending Class 4A champ Broadneck (Monday) and No. 2 Seton Keough (Thursday). The Mustangs host Perryville in league action Wednesday.
