No. 8 Archbishop Spalding dominated on both sides of the ball, as well as special teams, and scored all 37 of its points in the first half, as it improved to 4-2 with a 37-0 shutout of visiting St. Mary’s, Friday night in Severna Park.

In limited action, senior K.K. Smith rushed 11 times for 115 yards and a touchdown.  He also caught a 14-yard TD reception from quarterback Donnie Abey and returned a punt 60 yards for a third score.  Abey also had a 25-yard first quarter touchdown strike to Richard Gabelman.

Connor Pequigney represented the Spalding defense on the score sheet when he scooped up a first quarter fumble and raced 84 yards for the touchdown.  The fumble was caused by a sack of St. Mary’s quarterback Ryan Hart by Smith, who has become a devastating pass rusher for the Cavaliers.

Alex Barclay got Spalding going with a blocked punt in the opening quarter, which was turned into a 29-yard field goal by Kevin Weiman.

Next Friday, Spalding will travel to Archbishop Curley for a pivotal game in the MIAA B Conference.  St. Mary’s will travel to Bethesda to face Georgetown Prep.
