Some were calling it to be a close match, and in a lot of ways it was, but the No. 5 Glenelg Gladiators did their work and kept down the No. 15 North County Knights, Friday, 40-20.

The two teams nearly split the dual meet in number of bouts won, with Glenelg taking eight and North County winning six, but the bonus points accrued by the Gladiators helped stretch the lead and earn the team another out-of-county victory.

Glenelg had five falls on the night, adding 15 bonus points from Carter (119), Milani (135), Borkowski (145), Asher (160) and Pruett (171), and used a major decision by Brent at 125 to tally a total of 16 bonus-points to the Gladiator score.

Added decisions from Zoller (112) and Cochar (215), helped the team fend off bonus point wins from the Knights in Brent (125) and Ballard (189) along with four other decisions through the North County lineup.

Decisions for the Knights came by Benitez (103), Alexander (140), Blair (152) and a sudden death victory by Hyde at 285.

Glenelg’s next opponent lies in Centennial, Feb. 1, and North County faces No. 10 Old Mill, Feb. 4.
