St. Joe improves to 2-0 with a 35-14 victory

Playing a rare Friday afternoon home game, No. 4 Mount St. Joseph beat the rain that plagued much of Friday’s high school football action and claimed its second win of 2018, an impressive 35-14 victory over New Jersey’s Holy Spirit School.

It was another big day for sophomore quarterback Billy Atkins, who followed-up last week’s 425-yard passing performance with 217-yards and five touchdown passes.

Dont’e Thornton was the top target, catching six passes for 140 yards and three touchdowns. Kahri Barfield and Marlowe Wax also had touchdown receptions in the victory.

Wax also had a big day on the ground, rising for 83 yards on seven carries.
