Indians once again too much for Dundalk
The Franklin High football team has made a habit of being a playoff nightmare for Baltimore County rival Dundalk and, Friday night in Reisterstown, it was more of the same as the No. 4 Indians overpowered the Owls, 40-8, in a 3A North Region second round contest.
Quarterback Vernon Brown passed for 175 yards and three touchdowns and senior running back Von Reames carried four times for 93 yards and a score, while senior wide receiver Alex Jones caught four passes for 128 yards and a pair of scores.
After taking a 12-0 lead at the end of one quarter, Franklin (9-2 overall) scored 21 points in the second quarter to seize full control. Senior defensive end Montre Harris then brought on the running clock when he returned a third quarter fumble 55 yards for a touchdown. Harris also had eight tackles in the contest, including three for a loss.
Senior Shawan Lewis added six tackles, a sack and a hurry. He also forced the fumble on which Harris scooped and scored.
Dundalk (7-4) avoided the shutout with a 14-yard TD run by Treshawn Ray in the fourth quarter.
The Indians now move on to the 3A state quarterfinals next week and will learn their opponent after the MPSSAA reseeds the final eight 3A teams.
