Mercy High School, the No. 3 team in the first ever Varsity Sports Network girls soccer poll, opened its 2010 season on the road Tuesday afternoon and the Magic endured quite a battle from unranked Bryn Mawr, before prevailing, 3-2, in double overtime.

The Mawrtians (1-1), who play in the IAAM B Conference, were looking to knock off their second straight A Conference foe, after opening their season with a 4-0 win over Mount de Sales last Friday.

During regulation the Mawrtians matched a pair of goals by Mercy junior Alexis Prior Brown and Mercy needed a golden goal in double overtime from freshman Anna Borkowski to bring home the victory.

“This was a great game with two quality teams,” said Mercy coach Doug Pryor.  “Bryn Mawr is a very strong and fast team.  It was a very good game with both teams having several chances to score.”
