It’s only two weeks but those concerns about the McDonogh School offense are quickly fading away. After putting up 34 points in the season opener, the 20th ranked Eagles travel to Haverford School in Pennsylvania and rung up 48 more in a 48-21 decision Saturday afternoon.
Joel Jorgensen continued its hot start behind center for the Owings Mills school, producing 333 yards and six touchdowns. Junior wide receiver Miles Crump caught six passes for 110 yards and a touchdown.
Jorgensen, a junior, opened the scoring with a five-yard run, and connected with Crump on a 30-yard scoring play giving the Eagles a 14-0 advantage. Quarterback Vincent Garman got Haverford on the scoreboard with a one-yard score, then Jorgensen responded with a 67-yard run.
Garman threw a two-yard touchdown pass to Nick Craig, bringing Haverford to within 20-14 before intermission. The second half was all McDonogh.
Following a safety for McDonogh, Jorgensen used his arm to throw two more scoring passes, extending its lead to 35-14. The Eagles defense provided a score with Chris Davila returning an interception 51 yards before Jorgensen capped his afternoon with a 54-yard jaunt to the end zone.
Jorgensen went 14-of-27 for 214 yards passing and rushed eight times for 119 yards. In two games, Jorgensen has thrown seven TDs. The Eagles will play their first home game Friday afternoon against Penn Charter (PA).
