Donovan and Fichtner each score two to power the Cavaliers

Unless No. 1 Garrison Forest falters in the final days of the IAAM A Conference field hockey season, 2nd-ranked Archbishop Spalding will have to settle for the second seed in the upcoming A Conference playoffs, but the Cavaliers should enter the tournament with a head of steam.

Tuesday in Annapolis, the Cavaliers won their third straight since their only loss of the season, a 3-1 setback to Garrison Forest, with a 6-0 rout of host St. Mary’s. Spalding (11-1 overall, 7-1 MIAA A) has 20 goals in those three wins.

Bridget Donovan and Katie Fichtner had two scores each to lead Tuesday’s victory, with each also adding an assist.

Elly Beavers and Jilly Lawn also scored for the Cavaliers, with Lawn, Ally Keith and Becca Lawn also dishing out assists.

Sam Baechli made 12 saves for St. Mary’s.
