Senior point guard Kevin McDuffie scored a game-high 21 points to lead No. 19 River Hill to a 60-56 win over host Hammond on Wednesday.
The Golden Bears got off to a slow start in the first half, as the Hawks held a 27-16 lead at halftime. Hammond outscored River Hill 17-10 in the third quarter, closing the gap to 37-33 entering the final eight minutes.
River Hill made their free throws down the stretch, going 23-for-29 for the game. McDuffie made 9-of-10 free throws in the game and topped 20-plus points for the second straight game.
Senior guard Jordan Knisley added 14 points for the Hawks (7-1 overall, 6-1 Howard County).
Senior point guard David Patrick finished with 14 points, while sophomore Dionte Jones added a season-high 14 points and senior Tristan Baboolal contributed 12 for Hammond (3-5, 2-5).
The Hawks will travel to the Milford Mill Holiday Mixer and the Bears will play in the Winters Mill Holiday Tournament next week.
