Cougars get the game’s only goal in the first half

In a tense battle on the road, the 12th-ranked Chesapeake-AA field hockey team traveled to James M. Bennett, Monday, to battle in the 3A East Section I field hockey final and the visiting Cougars prevailed, 1-0.

Mason Frechtel, with an assist from Shelby Bennett, scored the only goal of the contest, in the first half, and Chesapeake keeper Eve Vickery needed just one save to record her fourth shutout of the season.

Despite getting just the one goal, Chesapeake dominated the action, owning a 16-1 advantage in shots and a 9-4 edge in penalty corners.

The Cougars (9-6) will host the Mount Hebron in Thursday’s 3A Regional Championship.
