Clinging to the lead of 10 wrestlers in the semifinal round, the No. 11 Meade Mustangs held on just long enough to withstand the power of No. 5 South River, crowning two Mustang champions in Meade’s Anne Arundel County Tournament Championship.

Led by winners Alston (170 pounds) and Lloyd (285), the Mustangs (194.5 team-points) matched South River’s two champions Perren (113) and Alley (126), though Lloyd’s heavyweight champions would be one of the hardest felt coming against North County’s highly ranked Maddox, 3-1.

South River (190 points) earned a majority of its points in the consolation rounds, seeing third-place winners Alley (120), Puccinelli (132), Murphy (145) and Clow (182), keeping ahead of third-place North County (168 points) and its champions Ballard and Hyde at 195 and 220, respectively.

Arundel, too, earned a pair of champions in Tyler and Justin Goodwin, winning back-to-back titles at 132 and 138 for the Wildcats’ fourth place finish, while other championship duos included Morrow (106) and Rice (145) for Chesapeake, and Harrell (120) and Marinacci (182) for Broadneck.

Old Mill place fifth in the team rankings, crowning Riddell as the team’s only champion at 160, while Severna Park saw a highlight with Ziff’s dominance of the 160-pound weightclass.
