No. 11 Marriotts Ridge jumped out to a 13-2 halftime lead on its way to a commanding 21-5 victory over Howard County rival River Hill on Monday.
Senior attacker Emily Cook tallied five goals to pace the Mustangs (1-0 overall, 1-0 Howard County). Alana Diffendal added three goals and Zoe Stukenberg had four assists in the game.
The Hawks were led by Abigail Thielemann, who scored two goals.
Marriotts Ridge claimed the Class 3A/2A South Regional title and advanced to the state final four last season. Despite graduating several key players including goalie Abbey Clipp.
