Chesapeake-AA’s top ranked softball team collected 16 hits in its 13-0 win over host Southern on Wednesday.

The top four batters in the lineup for the Cougars produced 11 runs on 13 hits.

Chesapeake (6-0 overall, 5-0 Anne Arundel) was led by freshman Emily Kirby, who went 3-for-3 with two runs scores and two RBI. Kim Federowicz was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, while Jacqueline Richards had a 2-for-2 day at the plate.

Senior pitcher Megan Hyson tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits while striking out 11 batters.  At the plate, she had three hits, scored three runs and added two RBI.

In the bottom of the second, the Bulldogs (2-4, 2-4) produced three straight hits but Hyson settled down to strikeout the side.

The Cougars have a tough test on Friday when they host No. 4 Glen Burnie. Southern will look to rebound when it travels to Broadneck on Friday.
