Breaking a three-year losing streak, the Meade Mustangs found their first win since 2008, Tuesday, earning a 10-5 in-county win over the Glen Burnie Gophers.

With a 7-1 lead at the half, the Mustangs had a good feeling they were about to win their first league game since 2000, and held off the comeback attempts by the Gophers to add a fifth win to the team’s 5-122 record since 2000.

The other four victories for Meade in the past decade all came in non-league games.

Zaynab Jennai led the Mustangs in scoring with five goals, followed by Brooke Coligan with three, and teammates Kaitlyn Blanch, Abby Ladd and Verna Manson each netting one goal in the team win.

Glen Burnie managed five goals against Meade goalie Cheyenne Novreske, making nine saves, and saw scoring efforts from Liz Hampton, Jordyn Childress and Rappola.

Hampton posted two goals in the game, and Blanton made three saves in the Gopher goal.

Meade will try and make it two in a row on Friday, taking on the Arundel Wildcats, as Glen Burnie hosts the South River Seahawks.
