Playing once again without star Jalen Robinson, as well as senior back Jordan Manley, a short-handed Mount St. Joseph squad survived an overtime challenge from visiting Loyola to pick-up an important 1-0 MIAA A Conference soccer victory, Tuesday in Irvington.
Joey Isaja continues to come through in the clutch for the No. 8 Gaels (8-3-1, 5-3-1), as he scored with four minutes to play in overtime to elevate St. Joe. Tyler Dorr triggered the winning score with a free kick played short into the box. Isaja headed the ball towards the goal line where a Don defender attempted to clear, but the shot’s momentum still carried it into the net.
St. Joe now has 16 points in the conference and is in third place.
Loyola, which came in ranked seventh, fell to 3-5 in the league and 4-6 overall. The Dons are tied for fifth place with Archbishop Curley, which knocked off top-ranked McDonogh, 1-0, in double overtime on Tuesday.
