Gaels double up Gilman for first conference win of the year

With Boys’ Latin and Archbishop Spalding slated as its final two opponents, if Mount St. Joseph was going to break through for an MIAA A Conference lacrosse victory in 2022, it figured that its best remaining chance would come on Tuesday at home against Gilman.

The Gaels made the most of the opportunity, doubling up the Greyhounds for an 8-4 victory.

Junior midfield Corey Myers led the Gaels (7-8 overall, 1-7 MIAA A) with three goals and an assist and Jack Spears also finished with four points, scoring two goals and handing out a pair of assists.

Sophomore attack Own Cooper added two goals, senior Finn Schmidt had one and junior Alex Clyde had an assist.

Gilman (8-10, 2-6) was paced by three goals from Michael Baddley. The Greyhounds are still mathematically alive for the playoffs, but just barely. They will need to win their final two league games — against St. Paul’s and McDonogh and get lots of help. One more win by either St. Paul’s, McDonogh or Loyola would eliminate the Greyhounds.
