Gaels knock off the Panthers in Alhambra Consolation bracket
After three consecutive losses to basketball rival St. Frances this season, including a setback in last Sunday’s Baltimore Catholic League Tournament final, Mount St. Joseph final defeated the Panthers, Friday night, in the consolation bracket of the Alhambra Catholic Invitational at Frostburg State University.
Similar to its effort in the BCL title game, St. Joe built a first half as the Gaels led 35-30 at the break. St. Joe, however, maintained its advantage this time, pulling away in the second half for a 71-58 win.
On Saturday, St. Joe will face another BCL rival, as it meets St. Maria Goretti, also for the fourth time this year, in the fifth-place consolation game (4:45 p.m.). Goretti walloped tournament host Bishop Walsh, 84-49, on Saturday to improve to 1-1 on the weekend.
St. Frances will also wrap up its season on Saturday, looking to salvage a victory when it takes on Bishop Walsh in the seventh-place consolation at 3:00 p.m.
