Mount de Sales made a run at Good Counsel’s powerful volleyball squad by winning the opening game of Sunday’s championship match of the Maryland/DC Private Schools Tournament, hosted by Mount de Sales, but the Falcons answered with three consecutive wins to take their third consecutive crown and their fifth in the last six years.
The game scores were 11-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-19.
Mount de Sales was making its third straight trip to the finals and looking for a way to finally top Good Counsel. Things got off to a good start with the first game rout. The match swung in the third game, as the Falcons outlasted the the Sailors in a tense close battle.
In the final game, Mount de Sales battled to tie the set at 16, but Good Counsel closed the set and match with a 9-3 surge.
It was the final match for Mount de Sales star Hannah Schmidt, who leaves with three consecutive IAAM A Conference championships. She will now move on to a college career at UMBC.
