Chaun Miller had 16 points as Eleanor Roosevelt from Prince George’s County posted a 54-50 decision over No. 5 Milford Mill Academy in the final game of Milford’s holiday mixer Tuesday afternoon.

Trailing by 10 points entering the fourth quarter, Milford Mill closed to within 48-45 on a three-pointer by Duane Miller with 1 minute, 54 seconds left in regulation. The Millers forced Roosevelt into a turnover, but missed a layup on the other end.

Milford Mill (5-1 overall) failed to score after the Raiders (5-3) were called for a five second violation on an inbounds. Anthony Jones hit two free throws, putting Roosevelt up 50-45.

Cameron Israel converted two free throws for Roosevelt to match a score by Nick Smoot for Milford Mill. A three-pointer by Isaiah McCray got the Millers to 53-50 with four seconds left before Nieronn Miles hit one of two free throws to put the game out of reach as the defending Class 3A state champs saw their 18-game winning streak, dating back to last season, ended.

“We didn’t execute well again, and if you don’t execute against good teams you’re going to lose,” said Milford Mill coach Al Holley, whose team’s prior setback was a 49-47 decision to Digital Harbor at the Basketball Academy at Morgan State University last January.

Tevin Hanner led Milford Mill with 15 points, and McCray finished with 13. The Millers resume regular season play at Franklin Jan. 5.
